This webinar will introduce some of the concepts of neurophysiologic acupuncture, with an emphasis on treating neurologic and musculoskeletal disease. There will be a discussion of various needling techniques, including classical, superficial, deep, periosteal, and segmental methods. The philosophy of using acupuncture from a neurologic perspective will be introduced, followed by a discussion of trigger points and their treatment. We will briefly review the pertinent parts of the nervous system and how it impacts our practice of acupuncture. Segmental acupuncture theory will be detailed, explaining the theory behind acupuncture point selection from a neurological perspective. Acupuncture treatment protocols for various orthopedic and neurologic issues will be covered, including general osteoarthritis, stifle osteoarthritis, sciatica, cervical pain, back pain, and tendinitis, among others. The webinar will end with a few case presentations of small animal orthopedic and neurologic cases. The attendee will leave the webinar with a basic understanding of the concepts behind neurophysiologic acupuncture and how it is practiced in the small animal clinic.
