This webinar will review current veterinary nutrition research about grain free foods and their effect on heart disease. Specifically, current research comparing outcomes using an extruded kibble that has grains versus an extruded kibble that is grain-free in relationship to heart disease. Dr Royal will discuss nutrients that affect heart function and how the current research has changed the diet recommendations made by vets and vet cardiologists about what pet food to choose to prevent or manage cardiac disease. We will consider possible flaws in reasoning for some of these recommendations resulting from this research. We will also consider what might be expected from differing recommendations in practice, and what future nutrition research might be relevant for these cardiac cases.
